Edna Mae Granade

May 13, 1923 — July 27, 2014

Edna Mae Harris Granade spent her long life working hard and serving others. Born on May 13, 1923, into the large family of Johnnie Franklin and Mattie Lou Harris in Fayetteville, Georgia, Edna excelled in school and then in work. Among her early employers was The Harrison Company in Atlanta, where she met her husband, Isaac Walker Granade. Together, with their two children, they made their home in Decatur and Miami as well as in Atlanta. Edna's days as wife and mother were filled with school events, PTA leadership, and church activities. Devoted to the church, Edna was a member of Briarlake Baptist for 49 years. It was with friends from Briarlake that Edna traveled across the world. Edna was employed in several positions after her husband's death, including ten years at the Tabb Insurance Agency. But, her greatest delight was in assisting others. Edna truly enjoyed times spent delivering her homemade pound cakes or sitting with people in the last days of their lives or chauffeuring friends to and from doctors' and dentists' offices. Edna Granade's long life and her battle with heart disease ended on Sunday July 27, 2014. The family is grateful for the care and support of Brighton Gardens of Dunwoody and Crossroads Hospice during the final illness. Edna is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mercer and Carolyn Granade; her daughter, Cheryl Granade Sullivan; her grandson and his wife, Matthew and Hannah Granade; her granddaughter, Amanda Granade; and her brother, C.B. Harris. A private interment will be held at the Granade Family Cemetery in Conyers, Georgia at 11 AM on Thursday July 31. Memorial services will be held at 3 PM on Thursday, July 31 in the chapel of Briarlake Baptist Church, followed by a reception in the church dining room. The family requests that those wishing to remember Edna send donations to Crossroads Hospice, 1957 Lakeside Parkway, Tucker, Georgia 30084 or to Decatur Cooperative Ministry, P O Box 457, Decatur, Georgia 30031-0457.
