Edna Freeman McGraw, age 97, died Sunday morning March 7, 2021 at PruittHealth – Virginia Park assisted living facility after suffering a stoke on February 6.
Born October 2, 1923 in Greenville, South Carolina, Edna was the daughter of the late James Forrest Freeman and Mary Elizabeth Barnett of Pickens County. She is predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Chris James Brunelle of Atlanta, Georgia, whom she met in August of 1941 and was married to in 1945. She is also predeceased by her husband of 11 years, David M. McGraw of Morrow, Georgia whom she met in 1990 and was married to in 1991. Edna had two sisters who both predeceased her, Kate Estelle Boggess of Belton, South Carolina and Lois Gaines of Piedmont, South Carolina.
During her working career, Edna worked as an administrative assistant with the Baptist Home Mission Board and later retired with over 20 years of service with Watkins Associated Industries in the area of insurance claims. Throughout her life, she was very active in her church and served in various roles, including singing in the choir, serving as WMU president and teaching children’s Sunday School.
Edna is survived by her son Chris James Brunelle, Jr. and wife Jill of Snellville, Georgia; son Wayne Thomas Brunelle and wife Cynthia of Woodstock, Georgia; grandson Carter Thomas Brunelle; grandson Parker Lee Brunelle and wife Kara; granddaughter Sydney Brunelle Whitney and husband Tyler; and great-grandsons Holden Brunelle, Noah Whitney and Bennett Brunelle.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 10, from 6-8 pm at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, Decatur, Georgia. A graveside service officiated by Edna's nephew, Dr. Willis Gaines, will be held on Thursday, March 11, at 2 pm at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Easley, South Carolina.
