Mrs. Edna Louise Gregory of Atlanta died Friday, August 24, 2007. She was valedictorian of Conetoe High School (Edgecombe County) NC in 1934 and received teaching credentials at East Carolina University, Greenville, NC. Mrs. Gregory graduated from Dorthea Dix Hospital Nursing School with the equivalent of an LPN degree. She taught school briefly and worked as a nurse for ten years. In the mid 1950's, Mrs. Gregory became an insurance underwriter which took her to Jacksonville, FL in 1958. She retired in Jacksonville at the age of 64 and then worked part-time for several insurance agencies for a number of years. Her last part time position was with Devane Printing in Jacksonville. At age 74, she moved to Atlanta, GA to be with her daughter and became a member of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Insurance Women of Jacksonville, the American Business women's Association (ABWA), president of the Sunburst Chapter, Jacksonville, FL, Chapter A of P.E.O. Atlanta, GA. Her hobbies were sewing and canasta. She is survived by her daughter, Marlene Gregory of Atlanta; brother, Ben Mobley of Asheboro, NC; sisters, Marie Wilkins of Jacksonville, FL, Eva Griffitts of Lake City, FL; nephews, David Wilkins, Ben Mobley, Jr.; nieces, June Wilkins and Ann Miles. She is also survived by special family friends, Pat, Kenneth and Alex Howard, Bonnie Lashley Powell, Mozelle Edwards, Johnny and Nancy Edwards and family, and the Joe and Debra Edwards family. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 30th at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church. Dr. David Jones and Dr. Hannah Garrett Johnson will officiate. A graveside service will be held Sept 21st at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Lake City, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the P. E. O. Educational Loan Fund. Make checks out to P.E.O Chapter A (designate on the check that the donation is for ELF in memory of Louise Gregory. Please send the donation to P. E.O. Chapter A in care of K. M. Patterson, 2262 Meadowvale Atlanta, GA 30345. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
