Edward Dominic Hart Jr., age 83, of Sandy Springs, Georgia, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 19, 2023.
Born in Lowell, MA, he was the son of the late Edward D. Hart and Gertrude V. (Corkery) Hart. After Ed graduated from Chelmsford High School, he went on to study at Boston College where he earned a graduate degree in accounting and business administration.
After graduating from Boston College, he was recruited by Arthur Anderson in New York City where he obtained his CPA license. Based on his outstanding performance, he was promoted to a Senior position with the responsibility of opening and managing Arthur Anderson's first office in Puerto Rico to support clients in the resort and casino industry. Ed and his former wife, Carolyn Hart Wilson lived there for eight years before being transferred back to Atlanta in 1972. After leaving Arthur Anderson, Ed leveraged his CPA and inherent financial business acumen to join a real estate company that specialized in developing apartment complexes and negotiating "anchor tenants" deals for retail properties.
In 2015, Ed retired from Formation Capital and spent his time playing golf at Rivermont Golf Club 3 to 4 times a week. Golfing was by far his favorite hobby, and he always had the commemorative plaque featuring a photo of his Hole in One achievement from June 12, 2012, prominently displayed.
Edward was predeceased by both of his parents, his brother, the late Michael Hart who died in May 2021 and his sister, the late Mary Jo Stanton, who died on September 30, 2021.
He is survived by his daughters Allison Hart Forrestal, Jessica Ann Hart and Rebecca Ann Hart of Atlanta, GA; 4 grandchildren, sister-in-law, Janet M. (Carr) Hart, nieces Maureen T. Hart, Audra M. Cashin, Monique Cassidy all of Reading, MA, Meghan Stanton of Lakeway, TX and nephew Matthew Stanton of Chelmsford, MA and many longtime friends.
Ed was strong-willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all his life experiences and despite challenging years, he always said that he had a good ride, had a lot of fun and experienced more than most.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, candid rapport and to those who did not know him, a gruff exterior which masked the heart of a generous and loyal soul who offered help to those in need. He shared his heart with his friends and family. He genuinely loved each of them- and if you knew him, you knew it. He will be missed dearly.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on July 28, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:30 am. at Holy Family Catholic Church's Parish Center located at 3401 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30068.
The family welcomes all who wish to join in honoring this remarkable man and share each other's fondest memories. A light continental breakfast will be served. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any of these organizations; St. Jude, an organization Ed felt strongly about and supported with monthly donations for over a decade, Monastery of the Holy Spirit Conyers, GA, and Mercy Care here in Decatur, GA.
