Edward Harold Ernst, Jr., 78, of Riverdale, GA died January 16, 2014. Ed was born on March 21, 1935 in Gloucester, Massachusetts and was the son of Alyce Somers and Edward Ernst. He attended high school in Ipswich, Massachusetts and proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War. After the War, he worked at the Smithsonian Institute in Boston for many years. He moved to Georgia in 1971 and worked in sales for various companies until forming his own company, Medical Transport. Ed loved his family and friends, the Boston Red Sox, Notre Dame Football, traveling the world, and a great bargain. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone he met. He is pre-deceased by his beloved sister, Kathy Ernst of Newburyport, Massachusetts. He is survived by sister, Pamela Ernst Dempsey, brother in law Lawrence Dempsey and nephew, Socko Dempsey, all of Stockbridge, GA.; his brother, Mike Stanwood and wife, Cindy, of Kingston, New Hampshire; his niece, Jody Caldwell of Johns Creek, GA and grand- niece, Christy Hicks of Atlanta, GA.; and nephew, Peter Swisher and grand- nephew, Dylan, of Portal, GA. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday January 21st with Rev. Larry T. Burgess officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial Contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society in Edwards name.
