Edward L. Gheesling, Sr. died after a brief illness on Monday, September 24, 2007. He was born June 9, 1921 in Chicago, IL, the only son of Leslie and Rose Eads. Upon high school graduation, he moved to Atlanta to attend Georgia Tech. While a student at Georgia Tech, he attended Grant Park Baptist Church where he met and married his wife of 62 years, Adalie Waters Gheesling. He joined the Army Air Corp in WWII, served in the Air Force during Korea and retired from the Air Force Reserves as a Captain. He received numerous medals during his active service. He enjoyed a 40 year business career with R.F. Knox, Co. in Atlanta, GA. One of his other great passions was music which he fulfilled by serving as music director at several churches in the Atlanta area. He was preceded in death by his wife, Adalie in May, 2005. He is survived by three children: Lance Gheesling of Dallas, TX; Kerry D. Gheesling of Stone Mountain, GA.; and Laurelie Gheesling of Baton Rouge, LA; four grandchildren: Tiffany Reimer of Royce City, TX and her spouse, Harold; Kerry A. Gheesling of Cartersville, GA and his spouse Stacey; Lindsay Anne Gheesling of Dallas, TX; and Scott Gheesling of Abilene, TX; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 29th, Rev. Albert Eads officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
