Edward Vanderslice

October 28, 1922 — November 23, 2012

Edward Vanderslice Sr., 90, of Senoia, GA passed away November 23, 2012 at home. He was born in Siluria, AL on October 28, 1922. He graduated from Thompson High School in Siluria, AL. WWII Army Veteran, Free and Associated Mason and Entrepreneur. He is survived and deeply loved by his children, Susan Vanderslice Perry (and Robert J.), Edward M. Vanderslice Jr., Rod C. Vanderslice (and Jennifer M.), Patricia Vanderslice Frary (and Stephen R.), Lisa Vanderslice Hall (and John C.); 10 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren and many friends. Ed grew up on a farm outside of Birmingham, AL with 2 brothers and 5 sisters. He was recruited to join the United States Army in the World War II effort. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Alabama to work in the Mobile Shipyards. He decided to return home to work in the Ore Mines. After one of the mine entrances collapsed he chose to pursue a less dangerous occupation. This spurred his move to Atlanta where he began building homes with GI loans. With his entrepreneurial spirit peaked, he continued to invest in real estate, owning and operating a hardware and building supply company. In the 1960's he and a group of investors purchased a large tract of land in Senoia, GA previously owned by former Mayor of Atlanta Ivan Allen. Eventually, Ed bought out the other investors and utilized the farm for logging timber and farming. He spent much of his time teaching his kids to hunt, fish, and farm the land. He spent the last 30 years living on his farm in Senoia, GA surrounded by family and friends. He was a kind, wonderful Father, Grandfather and Great-grandfather. He touched so many people with his generosity, warm sense of humor and his loving demeanor. Everyone around him knew of his love of country and how proud he was to have served. He will be sorely missed. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, November 27 and the memorial service will be held at 11AM, Wedenesday, November 28 in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, Decatur, GA.
