Edwin Bennett Upchurch

Edwin Bennett Upchurch, age 87, died Monday, September 27, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Atlanta native Evelyn Upchurch; two daughters, Carol O'Connor (Steve) of Tallahassee, FL and Joy Barmore (Rodney) of Flower Mound, TX; and son, Howard Upchurch of Johns Creek, GA; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Ed was a native Atlantan and served in the Army during WWII. He was a graduate of Georgia Tech and worked for Lockheed Marietta for over 36 years. He served as president, Institute of Industrial Engineers - Atlanta Chapter, and was a member of Toastmasters. A devote Christian, Ed was a long time member of Briarlake Baptist Church, serving for years as Deacon, Sunday School teacher and donating his time and services where needed. He also enjoyed golf and gardening, but nothing surpassed his faith in God and love for his wife and children. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Thursday, September 30th in the Chapel at Briarlake Baptist Church, Tommy Ferrell officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Atlanta Cancer Society or Briarlake Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at A. S. Turner & Sons, 2773 North Decatur Rd., Decatur, GA.
