Edwin Renn

August 16, 1925 — August 25, 2005

Edwin Ernest Renn, Jr. died August 25, 2005 at Emory University Hospital from brain surgery after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. The body was cremated. Born in Norfolk, Virginia in 1925 to Dr. and Mrs. Edwin Ernest Renn, Sr., he was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty Renn Walton. He attended Roanoke College and the Rutgers University Graduate School of Banking. Serving in the Army Signal Corps during the Korean War, he spent one year in Korea. Ed had a 38-year career in banking at first National Bank of Augusta and Fulton National Bank of Atlanta, which became Bank of  America. He retired in 1990 as a Vice President in private banking.  He was a member of the Seekers Class at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Decatur where he also served on the Administrative Board, as the superintendent of Sunday School and was the teacher of the Christian Homebuilders Class for 12 years. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rowena Simpson Renn; son, Edwin E. Renn, III and daughter-in-law, Leslie Anne Renn; daughter, Rebecca Fleming; and daughter, Mary Christina O'Kelley and son-in-law, John O'Kelley; brother, the Rev. William deVries Renn; as well as five nieces and nephews. Grandchildren are Edwin Ernest Renn, IV, Jessica Fleming Renaud, Carleigh Fleming, Will O'Kelley, Luke O'Kelley and Anna Rose O'Kelley. Great grandchildren are Elizabeth Renaud and Laura Fleming. A memorial celebration will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Oak Grove United Methodist Church. The family will receive visitors in the church parlor following the service. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Doctors Without Borders, (888-392-0392); for their relief efforts in Niger, Africa. A. S. Turner & sons
