Elia Pound Verdi, 95, of Lilburn passed away on January 8, 2013 at the Sunrise Assisted Living on Five Fork Trickum Road. Elia was born on March 6, 1917 in Dacula, Ga. Her father was the late Sidney Pound and her mother was Villa Pound from Gwinnett County. The family moved to Decatur in 1929 and she graduated from Decatur High School in 1936. She joined and was baptized at the Decatur First Baptist Church and remained a member for 83 years. She was very active in many of the church programs. After working for Sears for 25 years, she began a new career at the First Baptist Church Child Development Center. During the early years there she was asked and served as Director. This job was the joy of her life and she talked fondly about the years she served there. She is survived by her son, Victor and his wife Nancy. The grandchildren are Russ Verdi and his wife Kristi, Randy Verdi and his wife Tammi, Jeff Verdi and his wife Josie, Julie Hall and her husband Jason. Her great grandchildren are Johnny, Zach, Tucker, Katie, Jordan, Mason, Caden, Sara Claire and Cohen. The great-great grandchildren are Dylan and Tinley. Memorial gifts may be given in Elia's name to the Decatur First Baptist Church at 308 Clairmont Ave., Decatur, Ga. 30030. The funeral service will be held at the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at 2 PM with Rev. Joe Mason officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 12 from 6 to 8pm at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
