Elizabeth Ahlquist

Elizabeth Ahlquist, 97, a longtime resident of Avondale Estates, passed away peacefully on May 22nd, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Ahlquist. She lived the last two years with her daughter in Braselton, GA. Elizabeth was an active member of Avondale Estates First Baptist Church, The Avondale Community Club, Garden Club and Woman's Club. She was an excellent bridge player and enjoyed the game well into her 90's. She was a Navy Veteran of WW II and retired Assistant Post Master of Avondale Post Office. After retiring she spent many years travelling the world and volunteered generously at DeKalb General Hospital She was a loving mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend. Her quick smile and wonderful sense of humor will be cherished by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Adele Ahlquist Long (Alan) of Braselton, GA., son, Ernest Ahlquist Jr. (Molly) of Decatur, GA. , granddaughter Emily Ahlquist O'Donnell (Johnny), of Chattanooga, TN., grandson Richard L. Ahlquist of Tuscaloosa, AL., and great-granddaughter Molly O'Donnell of Chattanooga, TN, niece, Janet Lewis Crites, of Charlestown, SC. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons on Friday 1:00pm with Dr. Truett Gannon, Rev. Clay Bowden, and Rev. Ray Newman officiating. Interment will follow in Decatur Cemetery.
