Elizabeth Clarke Herring

Mrs. Elizabeth Joan Clarke Herring of Avondale Estates, Georgia, was born on March 19, 1929 in suburban Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  She went home to be with the Lord on October 3, 2007.  After graduation from West Chester University, she enjoyed a full life as a teacher, professional softball player, and retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation.  She was the pianist for South Decatur Baptist Church for several years.  She is survived by her husband, Carl F. Herring, Jr.; her brother, Ray Shearer Clarke, Edina, Minnesota; her brother, John Richard Clarke, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; her daughter, Anne Herring Shirley and husband, Stone, Commerce, GA; her son, Carl F. Herring, III, Tucson, Arizona; and daughter, Jeanne Elizabeth Herring Giager and husband, Terry, Avondale Estates, GA; and 6 grandchildren.  Services will be held Saturday, October 6, 2007 at 11 AM at Briarlake Baptist Church Chapel at 3715 LaVista Road, Decatur, GA  30033.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta in memory of Elizabeth Joan Clarke Herring, 1680 Tullie Circle, N.E., Atlanta, GA  30329; ATTN:  Gift Processing. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons.  Mrs. Herring will be taken to Philadelphia, PA for a private burial.
