Elizabeth (Betty) Hall Dunn passed away on January 4, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband, and love of her life E. D. (Jack) Dunn, her parents Ailene Adams Hall and James Vernie Hall, her sister Mary Hall Crutchfield, her son Mark Hall Dunn, and her daughter-in-law Lori Taylor Dunn.
She was born and grew up in Decatur, Georgia. She graduated from Decatur Girls High and went on to receive a degree from Wesleyan College Conservatory with a BFA in Speech. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. While at Wesleyan College, Betty was selected from all College Sophomores in Georgia to introduce President Roosevelt as he spoke over the radio in a coast to coast broadcast on November 6th. President Roosevelt was running for his third term. Her script was written by Norman Corwin, an NBC writer. Georgia was the first state to allow an eighteen year old to vote. Betty taught at the Davidson School after graduation. She was a member of the Junior League of Decatur, where she helped establish The Hearing Center.
Betty is survived by three children, Derrill Dunn McRae (John), Jim Dunn (Corinne), Lanie Dunn McCrumb, (Mike), and grandchildren Jim McRae (Heather), Andrew McRae, Allie McCrumb Rush (Ethan), Alex Dunn, Katie Dunn, and one great grandchild Jack McRae.
The family would like to thank and acknowledge Longleaf Hospice for their kindness and guidance. We would also like to thank mother’s caregivers Annie Allen and Karlene Ramasar for their loving kindness and friendship to our mother and family.
The arrangements for Betty Dunn are visitation Tuesday night January 8th from 6 to 8pm at A. S. Turner and Sons in Decatur. Graveside Service on January 9th at 11:00 am at the Decatur Cemetery, procession originating at A. S. Turner and Sons at 10:40 am.
In lieu of flowers please donate to Wesleyan College or the E.D. (Jack) Dunn Scholarship for Banking at Georgia State University.
