Elizabeth Elyea Ward, surrounded by her family, passed away January 13, 2013, at her daughter's home in Norcross, Georgia. She was preceded in her death by her husband, Dr. John Albin Ward; and her brother Charles Dwelle Elyea, Jr., and her sister, Dorothy Elyea McKenzie. Mrs. Ward is survived by her three children, John Samuel Ward of Stone Mountain GA, Virginia Ward Bradford (Bob) of Thomasville GA, and Elizabeth Ward Saunders (Chris) of Norcross GA; six grandchildren, Virginia Jeannette Bradford, Christopher Lee Saunders (Laura), David Michael Saunders (Ashley), Courtney Lee Bradford, Michael Christian Bradford, and Kathryn Faith Saunders. Elizabeth was a native of Atlanta and graduated from Girls High. After graduating from Wesleyan College, she worked for CandS Bank in downtown Atlanta. She then married Dr. John Albin Ward in 1954 and raised her children in the Morningside area, and then later the Lakeside area of DeKalb County. She was very active in her church, Clairmont Presbyterian, where she was a long-time member of the Prayer Team. She was an avid genealogist and spent countless hours researching her family history. She especially enjoyed taking family trips with the Georgia Mineral Society. She was a member of the Book Club, Medical Auxillary, the Garden Club, and regularly attended senior university classes at both Emory and Mercer. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Januray 19, at Clairmont Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall. A private graveside service will be held later at Historic Oakland Cemetery. For those desiring, a memorial contribution may be made to Clairmont Presbyterian Church, 1994 Clairmont Rd, Decatur GA 30033. The family will receive friends 6-8 Friday evening at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
