Elizabeth McFarlane “Betty” Wright died Thursday, November 13, 2008. Betty was born August 20, 1932 in Talladega, AL. She was the only child of deaf parents who taught at the Alabama School for the Deaf. Betty grew up communicating with her parents using sign language and later interpreted church services for the deaf for several years. A devout Christian, she taught Sunday school and worked with small children at Briarlake Baptist Church for several years. Betty also worked in the church dining room, helping to serve food on Wednesday nights and served as secretary of the Chapel Bible class. A loving wife and mother, Betty is survived by her husband, Charles Nick Wright of Tucker; sons, John S. Wright of Tucker, Paul D. Wright and his wife Shorena of Burlington, MA. She is also survived by her grandson, George N. Wright; and granddaughter, Mariam A. Wright of Burlington, MA. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Briarlake Baptist Church. A. S. Turner & Sons
