Mrs. Elizabeth (Betty) Pitts Barton, age 82, of Atlanta died Friday, July 30, 2004. She is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Gaynor and Kay Sands; granddaughters, Stephanie Hensley and Suzette Reeves; grandsons, Bart, Ben, and Matt Sands; great-grandchildren, Chloe and Gabriel Hensley and Paul Reeves; four sisters, Mary James Gates, Margaret Davis, Catherine Reeves, and Dorothy Olson; and seven nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Earl N. Barton, and her daughter, Jane Barton Ivie. Betty grew up in Locust Grove, Georgia. She attended college at Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville and graduated from Draughons School of Commerce in Atlanta. She was employed by Union Pacific Railroad and Kemper Insurance, was a member of Peachtree Christian Church and the DeKalb Junior League, and attained the rank of Life Master as a member of the American Contract Bridge League. The funeral will be held on Sunday, August 1, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 2773 North Decatur Rd., Decatur, GA 30033. Interment will be at Arlington Memorial Park. Those desiring may send contributions to the National Alzheimer?s Association, 1925 Century Blvd., N.E., Atlanta, GA 30329. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at A. S. Turner & Sons.
