Elizabeth Teal Cunningham

Elizabeth Teal Cunningham passed from this life on Wednesday, November 30, 2016. Mary Elizabeth was born on August 13, 1920 in Talbotton, GA to William and Della Hall Teal. Her education came from Talbotton Baptist Church and Talbot County Schools, where she graduated with honors. She attended Southern Business University in Atlanta, and then joined Southern Bell in the General Office. She retired as an Accounting Supervisor with 43 years of service. She married L. A. Cunningham in 1939 and they raised 3 sons. L. A. and Elizabeth were part of the original group that visualized and built the First Christian Church of Decatur. After retirement, she gave all her volunteer hours to the church. She and special friend, Thetis Merritt became co-chairs of Social and Service Outreach for the Beacon Class and Christian Women's Fellowship. They also delivered meals on wheels for seventeen years. She was also a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, L. A., and her oldest son, Gus. She is survived by sons, Scott (Joyce) of Vancouver, Washington, Dan (Anna) of Johns Creek, GA., and sister, Emily Barker of Decatur, as well as seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Decatur First Christian Church. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday December 5, 2016 at Decatur First Christian Church, 601 W. Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur, with burial to follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Tucker, GA. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:30 at on Monday December 5 at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
