Ella Evans

January 29, 1914 — November 3, 2007

Ella Evans, 93, of Norcross, formerly of Buckhead passed away Saturday, November 3, 2007.  She was a World War II veteran, serving as a WAAC from 1943 to 1946.  She worked as secretary to the Commanding Officer of the Secretariat in Berlin and also worked with the Denazification board typing testimonies of the Nuremburg Trials.  In Frankfurt, Germany she worked as a stenographer, secretary and statistical clerk on General Eisenhower's staff.  In the 50's she began employment with the Corp of Engineers working in Casablanca, French Morocco and Keflaurk, Iceland.  In 1957 she returned to New York City and held various positions until her retirement in May, 1974.  In the mid 80's she moved to Atlanta with her sister and the two spent many happy years together at Campbell Stone Apartments for senior citizens and were parishioners at Cathedral of Christ the King.  Since March of 2006, she lived at Morning Starr Assisted Living.  Surviving her are nieces, Helen Schroeder and husband Steve of Atlanta, Loraine Janelle and husband Bill of Maine; nephew, John Johnson and wife Janice of Greenville, SC; four great nieces and nephews; and two great- great nephews.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at the Cathedral of Christ the King.  Interment, Arlington Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta or St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Norcross.  The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Tuesday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
