Ellen Banks (Beavers) Shadrick

Ellen Banks (Beavers) Shadrick, age 98, passed away September 12, 2018. A Georgia native, she resided at Park Springs Continuing Care Retirement Community in Stone Mountain, GA for the last 14 years of her life. She was a member of Clairmont Presbyterian Church but also attended Mountain Park United Methodist Church.
Ellen was born in Newborn, GA November 18, 1919 and graduated from The Newborn School. She later attended Draughton School of Commerce before beginning her career with The Veterans Administration in 1942 where she retired in 1977. A loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, she instilled her values and fervent belief in God on the entire family. She loved unconditionally and fiercely defended her family, but was also their strongest critic.
Ellen was the daughter of John Neal Banks, Sr. and Dempie Lee (Davis) Banks. She was preceded in death by her first husband Roy L. Beavers Jr., her second husband Columbus Leon Shadrick, her older sister Mable Altmeyer and her younger brother John Neal Banks, Jr. She is survived by her son Roy L. Beavers III, his wife Elaine Phillips Beavers; Granddaughters Amy Elizabeth Long and Amanda Leigh McKinney; and Great Grandchildren Madelyn Renee long, Isabella Grace McKinney and Hudson James McKinney.
The family will receive visitors at A.S. Turner and Sons, 2773 North Decatur Rd, Decatur, GA from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Saturday, September 22, 2018 followed immediately by a service in their chapel. Interment will be at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, 3000 Lawrenceville, Hwy., Tucker, GA following the service.
