Ellen Motley

September 2, 1911 — July 12, 2004

Mrs. Ellen Motley of Atlanta died Monday, July 12, 2004.  She was born into a large Italian family in New York in 1911 and in 1935 she married William W. (Bill) Motley who was a saxophonist with the Claude Thornhill Band.  She was president of the St. Martha?s Guild of Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Miami, FL.  Her chief focus in life was raising her two sons and being the matriarch of her family.  She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. William W. (Bill) & Marilyn Motley of Conyers, GA, Robert H. (Bob) & Jeanne Motley of Roswell, GA; sisters, Mary Schiel, Helen Wambold, & Claire Stone, all of Hempstead, L. I., NY; grandchildren Dr. William W. Motley III & his wife, Dr. Jenny Motley, Bryan Motley & his wife, Dr. Jennifer Motley, Sarah Anne Motley, & Rebecca Louise Motley; and four great grandchildren, Maxwell Motley, Francis Motley, Abigail Motley, & William Motley.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 15, 2004, at the Chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons with Father Ramon Aymerich officiating.  Interment will be in Arlington Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Wednesday at A. S. Turner and Sons.
