Ellen Virginia Buchanan Winn passed away peacefully on June 12, 2024 in Dacula, Gwinnett County, Georgia.
Born in Atlanta's Oak Grove Community on November 9, 1942 to Clarence Otis Buchanan and Mary Modena Wilkins Buchanan, she attended W. D. Thomson Elementary School and Druid Hills High School, graduating in 1960.
Ellen met Walter Roy Winn of Decatur, Ga. in 1959, and they were married on April 2, 1960.
Ellen was a homemaker for most of her adult life. She is a retired Georgia Power Company employee, having worked in the Accounting and Budgeting Department.
Ellen is survived by her husband Walter, their children James Marcus Winn and wife Abbe Williams Winn; Richard Alan Winn; and Stephen Cameron Winn and husband Colin Russell Ferguson; by their grandchild Reverend Mary Margaret Winn and husband Reverend Samuel Rixey Sheridan; by their great grandson James Malcolm "Mac" Winn Sheridan; by their grandchild Kathryn Crawford Winn Hogan and husband Paul Hartley Hogan; and by her brother John Carlton Buchanan and wife Jan Eleanor Coombs Buchanan.
She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Betty Buchanan Gilbert and husband
Edgar Gilbert.
Ellen loved cooking for her family, gardening, attending her children's little league and high school baseball and football games; antiquing and traveling with Walter to Pennsylvania more than a few times to buy antiques for their antique booths; and traveling throughout New England, into Maine and Canada, and cruising Alaska and the Caribbean. We are thankful for her blessed presence in our lives.
A Memorial Service will take place at AS Turner Funeral Home at 2:00 PM. There will be a visitation starting at 12:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest making donations to the American Cancer Society
