Eloise Muriel Wallace Nelson was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to Roy Wallace and Amanda Rutherford on May 22, 1915. Her maternal grandparents were Christopher Ray Rutherford and Amanda Glasco, and paternal grandfather was Lawrence Wallace. She was the eldest of three children. During her early years, the family relocated to the Buffalo, New York area. She attended Lackawanna and Erie County, New York schools.
On March 21, 1937, Eloise married the love of her life, John Nelson in Buffalo. The two met on a blind date, and she and John were married for 59 years until his death in 1996. He was a devoted husband and excellent provider. Eloise had an entreprenial spirit. She and John owned several small businesses, as well as, real estate investments in two states.
She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Albans, NY and St Paul's Lutheran Church, Decatur, GA. She also actively attended Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Decatur, Ga and Transfiguration Episcopal Church, Dallas, Tx.
Eloise was graceful, always stylish and known for entertaining with flair. Innately talented in art, fashion, beauty and baking, she lived a full life and always provided comfort, love and fun for those around her. An outstanding cook, everyone loved for her to bake special treats, and make her own version of Margaritas. She enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts and even made rag dolls. Eloise loved decorating so much, that often the family would return home to find rooms fully redesigned and refurbished, with furniture moved.
She spent her free time reading, enjoying movies and most of all playing cards, especially Kings in The Corner and Bridge. She belonged to bridge clubs in Buffalo, St Albans, New York and Atlanta. She loved the sun and enjoyed trips to the Caribbean and Florida with family and friends.
As a quiet, deeply caring Mother and homemaker, she nurtured many young friends, neighbors and family members. She had a special fondness for her daughters' friends and always welcomed them into her home with open arms.
When asked for words of wisdom, she always said, Whatever you do, always do your best.
She was extremely proud of her three daughters, Barbara Lambright, Freeport, Long Island; Shirley Stevenson and her husband Ed of Sarasota, Florida; and Joyce Dennis and her husband Gary of Frisco, Texas; her five grandchildren, Craig and Pamela Lambright, Bradley and Terence Armistead, and Kimberly Stevenson; and ten great grandchildren, Kamesha, Justin, Craig, Jr, Evan, Kai, Rachel, Shae, Bryn, Marcus and Cameron.
