Elsie Elizabeth Price

January 13, 1919 — March 13, 2018

Betty Dillard Price, 99, formerly of Decatur, Georgia, passed away March 13, 2018 at Christian City Convalescent Center in Union City, Georgia. Betty was a long time member of Decatur First United Methodist Church and always considered Decatur as her home. As Betty liked to say, she came into this world on a very icy morning on January, 13, 1919. Both of her parents died from tuberculosis when Betty was very young and she came to live with her aunts, Lottie Metcalf and Annie Battles in Decatur. She shared many fond memories of growing up with her cousin Mark Battles on Melrose Avenue. She graduated from Decatur Girls High in 1936 and attended Wesleyan College in Macon with a grant from Patillo Methodist Church. After 2 years, she returned home and took her first job with Shell Oil Company. She married Rabun Price of McDonough on September 2, 1950 and they shared 20 years together until he suffered a massive heart attack in August 1970. Betty decided to use her time to help others and volunteered at DeKalb General Hospital for 24 years where she served as Pink Lady and delighted patients as “Sparkles” the clown. She is survived by numerous cousins. Her family would like to thank the staff at Christian City for their loving care and support and to also thank the caregivers at the Marietta Living Center where Betty resided for several years. No services at planned at this time.
