Elton L. Cook

July 31, 1928 — May 1, 2008

Mr. Elton L. Cook, 79, a long-time resident of Decatur, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008, after a long illness.  He was born in Walnut Grove, MS and raised in Newton, MS, by parents Charles and Bessie Cook.  Elton served in the U.S.M.C. from 1947-1951.  After serving his country, he attended Southern College of Pharmacy at Mercer University and graduated with a B.S. Degree in 1955.  After graduation he owned and operated Cook's Pharmacy in Decatur for 35 years.  He was an active member of University Heights United Methodist Church in Decatur.  He enjoyed wood working, photography and the outdoors. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sallie W. Cook of Decatur: son, Michael W. Cook and daughter-in-law, Nicole I. Stull-Cook of Douglasville; two granddaughters, Melinda Stull and Keilani Stull; and one sister, Bonnie Jean Murphey of Newton, MS.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and grand nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 4th at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons, 2773 North Decatur Rd., Decatur, with Rev. John Dallas officiating.  Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, 3000 Lawrenceville Hwy., Tucker.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to University Heights United Methodist Church, 1267 Balsam Dr., Decatur, GA 30033 or Embracing Hospice, 3180 Presidential Dr., Atlanta, GA 30340.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M.
