Emily Baird Whitt

Emily Pierce Whitt of Doraville passed away Thursday February 27, 2014. Emily was born July 18,1927 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Thompson Baird Pierce and Lucile Reynolds. She spent her childhood days in Roanoke, Va where she met her future husband, Russell Whitt. Emily graduated from James Madison University with a BA in Voice with a concentration in Piano. After graduation she taught music in the public schools in Virginia. Emily married Charles Russell Whitt on August 2,1950 and they moved to Charlotte NC. There, Emily continued teaching music privately. She taught choir at Thompson Orphanage and was a soloist with Charlotte Oratorio. In the 1960's, they relocated to Atlanta but maintained their cabin "Whitt's End" at Lake Wylie where Emily took their four boys each summer. Emily is preceded in death by her sisters Lucile Ham and Shirley Pfluger. She was a joyous, loving and devoted mother and wife and we will miss her until we meet again in heaven. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 3, at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons with Rev. Laura A. Bryant officiating. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, Snellville.The family will receive friends Sunday, March 2nd from 5:00-8:00PM at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory
