Emily H. Strickland, age 89, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018. She was born the daughter of a Methodist Minister Rev. Ruben L. Harris and Ethel Hall Harris, and lived in small towns throughout Georgia, during her childhood, while her father served in various parishes of the South Georgia Conference. Emily enrolled in and attended Andrew College, and LaGrange College, where she completed a BA in English and a Master’s degree in childhood education from Georgia State University. She met her husband of 61 years, Cecil L Strickland, while attending LaGrange College. Cecil’s death preceded Emily in February 2011. Also preceded in death was her brother Randolph L Harris. Cecil and Emily settled in the Tucker, Georgia area where they spent the past 45 years. Emily was a retired school teacher of 35 plus years at Atlanta City Schools and the Gwinnett County School System where she taught fifth grade. She and her husband were also involved in real estate in the Tucker area. Emily was involved in many community activities, but she was especially passionate about gardening her day lilies and camellias. She also enjoyed playing the piano and crocheting. Emily is survived by her daughter Lana Sachsenmaier, son-in-law Karl Sachsenmaier and one of the loves of her life: her granddaughter Jessica Sachsenmaier. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Andrew College in Cuthbert, GA or LaGrange College in LaGrange, GA in Emily’s name. May Emily rest in peace and rise in glory.
