Emily Jane Benton Anderson of Decatur, died Friday, June 25, 2010 after a lengthy battle with ALS. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Joseph Reid Anderson, whom she met while attending Stephens College in Columbia, MO. Mrs. Anderson was a native of Savannah, GA where she became a lover of the beach at Tybee Island and her love continued through her summer vacations on Hilton Head Island. She was a lifetime Georgia Tech fan, loved the Atlanta Braves and the Masters Golf Tournament that she attended for many years. She was a lifetime bridge enthusiast, a member of Emory Presbyterian Church and volunteered at Emory University Hospital. Mrs. Anderson was a loyal Chic-Fil-A customer and liked to play the Georgia Lottery scratch game of bingo. She is survived by her son, Gary Anderson of Decatur; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy Bottomy Magarahan and Charlie Magarahan of Cumming; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Emory Presbyterian Church, 1886 North Decatur Road, with Rev. Jill Oglesby Evans officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
