Emma Eleanor Jewett, 99, was promoted to glory on September 20, 2015, in Atlanta, Georgia. Born in Richmond, Va. she was preceded in death by beloved husband, Melvin E. Jewett, Sr. and is survived by children Neva (John) Meyer of Muncy, Pa.; Melvin (Charlotte) Jewett, Jr. of Augusta, Ga.; Raymond (Nell ) Jewett of Waycross, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren. She was a faithful servant of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and of the Salvation Army, having been commissioned in the World for God session (1936) and served in Virginia and West Virginia, before her final appointment to the School for Officer Training in Atlanta, as dietitian. Emma remained a resident of Atlanta since 1967. She was known for her delicious candies and baked goods which she freely gave to numerous cadets, officers, friends and family throughout the south. After retirement she continued to work for the Salvation Army in the education department. Visitation will be held at the Salvation Army Temple Corps at 2090 North Druid Hills Rd. NE at 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 23, with funeral service at 12:00 followed by interment at Westview Cemetery 1680 Abernathy SW. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army Temple Corps. Funeral arrangements are by A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
