Emma Kathryn Hanes

Emma Kathryn Hanes passed away on December 14, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Kathy was born on August 20, 1925 and grew up near Blakely, Ga. After high school she enrolled in Nursing School at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. She later married Jack Hanes and they eventually settled in Avondale Estates, Ga. where they were deeply involved in their community and their church. Her beautiful smile and her delicious chocolate cake welcomed family and friends alike to the house, she loved to entertain company. After Jack's passing, she moved to Stone Mountain before eventually moving to Fayette County to be nearer to family. She is survived by her brother Max Houston and sons Steve (wife Nancy) and Tim (wife Sherry) along with four grandchildren, Shannon, Abby, Scott and Michael. The family will receive friends at 10am preceding a life celebration at 12 noon at Avondale First Baptist on December 17th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Avondale First Baptist Benevolence Fund.
