Emory Marion Brooks

August 3, 1921 — January 11, 2016

Emory Marion Brooks, 94, of Stone Mountain, passed away peacefully on Monday January 11, 2016. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was born on August 3, 1921 in McDuffie County, GA to Allie Cason and Jesse Reese Brooks, and was raised on a farm with his four brothers while also playing varsity football for Warrenton High School. After Graduating From high school, he moved to Atlanta to attend The Atlanta Business College and met the love of his life, Henrie Murray. During that time, Emory was called to serve in the Army in the European theater of World War II, and was gone for three and a half years. One month after his return to the states, he and Henrie married and had two sons. They celebrated 68 years of marriage before her passing in 2014. Emory loved camping with friends and family, fishing with the grandchildren as well as hunting. He also loved watching college football and the Atlanta Braves. He co-owned the B and D Cafeteria at Georgia State University for 46 years and was a member of Scott Blvd. Baptist Church for 63 years where he served as a Deacon as well as serving on other committees. Surviving Emory are his two sons and daughter-in-laws; Wayne (GaryAnne) Brooks, and Murray (Cathy) Brooks; five grandchildren; Ashley Coleman, Bryan Brooks, Charlie Brooks, Kiley (Russell) Smith and Todd (Nikki) Brooks; Five great-grandchildren with one due in February; Logan and Emily Coleman, Gabriel and Elise Brooks and Reese Brooks who lovingly called him Gran. Family will be accepting floral arrangements or donations in his honor may be sent to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta/Egleston. Funeral Services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons on Thursday January 14, 2015 at 12:00 noon with Rev. Gregory A. Smith officiating with interment to follow at Arlington Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior at A.S Turner and Sons, 2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur GA.
