Mrs. Enid Kate Cook Payne, age 92, passed away at her home with loved ones on Monday, February 16, 2009. She was a graduate of Southwest DeKalb High School, 1933. She was married for 53 years to the late John Wesley Payne, Sr. They had 5 children: daughters, Nannie Kate Thompson married to the late Joe M. Thompson, son, John Wesley Payne, Jr. married to Nancy Jo Payne, son, Robert J. Payne married to Flora Payne, son, the late Tommy C. Payne married to the late Eiko Payne, daughters Nellie Jo Folds married to Richard Folds. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Cook Skelton Elizabeth Cook Lewis and brother C. L. Cook; She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucy Breedlove and Mary Freeman and brother, Dewey Cook. Mrs. Payne was a charter member of Oak Grove Baptist Church for 77 years. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 19th. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Gardens in Ellenwood. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 17th, and Wednesday, February 18th, at A. S. Turner & Sons.
