Ernest Eugene Carter of Lilburn died Thursday, February 12, 2009. He was born January 18, 1918 on a farm in Rutledge, Georgia, graduated from Rutledge High School, and later took business courses at what is now Georgia State University. A veteran of World War II, Ernest served proudly in the United States Navy for four years. He was Chief Storekeeper on the U.S.S. Butte in the Pacific fleet where he was in the invasion of Okinawa. For over 50 years Ernest worked for Sands & Co. of Georgia where he was office manager and Assistant Secretary and Treasurer. Ernest volunteered as a mentor in Junior Achievement and was an officer in the American Management Society. For about ten more years after retiring from Sands, Ernest sold men's clothes part time for Muses and then for Parisian. Ernest was a loving husband and father, an avid Braves fan, and an active participant in his daughters' lives. A member of Decatur First United Methodist Church for over 55 years, he was in the Fellowship class and was a devoted usher and collector. Ernest was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Sarah, who died in October 2008. He is survived by daughters, Patricia Carter Post of Lilburn and Barbara Carter of Tucker; son-in-law, John P. Post; grandchildren, Kristin Patterson Edmunds and her husband Tim Edmunds, John P. Post, Jr., Melinda J. Post, and Kyle Carter Post; great-grandchildren, Brooke and Lauren Edmunds; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, February 15, 2009 from 4:00p.m. - 6:00p.m. at A. S. Turner and Sons, 2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30030. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of Decatur First United Methodist Church at 300 E. Ponce de Leon Ave. Rev. Frank Brock and Bishop L.
