Ernest Glenn Jackson

August 19, 1910 — February 15, 2007

Mr. Ernest Glenn Jackson, 96, a resident of Decatur, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2007. Mr. Jackson was born in Centralhatchee, Georgia to the late Joseph Fletcher Jackson and Mary Ella Folsom Jackson. He grew up in Centralhatchee and moved to Newnan as a young man, where he lived for a number of years. Following his return from WWII the family moved to Rome and lived there until 1965 when the family moved to Decatur. He was an active member of Valley Brook Baptist Church for many years. He was also active in the Boy Scouts of America in Rome and Decatur for a number of years. Mr. Jackson was a veteran of WWII and served in The U. S. Army Air Corps in North Africa and Italy. His wife of 67 years, Ruth S. Jackson, preceded him in death in March, 2006. He is survived by daughters, Shirley (Hoyt) Rogers of Rome and Melanie (Tom) Rogers of Marietta; son, Cecil (Donna) Jackson of Columbia, SC; grandsons, Bill (Nancy) Gore of Rome and Christopher Jackson of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter, Kelly (Jeff) Davis of Columbia, SC; great-grandson, Tyler Gore; and great-granddaughter, Tommi Gore, both of Rome, in addition to a number of nieces and nephews, and other family members. A service celebrating his life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, February 18th at Valley Brook Baptist Church, 1198 North Valley Brook Drive, Decatur, Ga. A burial service will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan. Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur. The family will also receive family and friends following the services at the church and cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Valley Brook Baptist Church or a charity of your choice. A. S. Turner & Sons
