Ernestine M. Smith

November 16, 1928 — January 1, 2017

Ernestine Morgan Smith, age 88 of Loganville, died on Sunday, January 1, 2017.
Born on November 16, 1928, the youngest child of Ernest Carl Morgan and Bessie Agnes Miller Morgan. She grew up on the family farm in the Rehoboth community (more commonly known as Pea Ridge) in DeKalb County, Georgia.
She graduated as valedictorian from Clarkston High School at age 17. She received a full scholarship to Oglethorpe University, but chose, instead, to marry the love of her life, Clarence Teurman Smith in 1949. They had 65 wonderful years together and raised 4 children. She worked at the Federal Reserve Bank until her first child was born and she quit to become a full-time homemaker and raise her family.
She was a life-long member of Rehoboth Baptist Church where she taught 2nd grade Sunday School for over 20 years, worked at Vacation Bible School and the Wednesday Night Suppers for many years. When her children were older, she and a group of her friends were the first kitchen staff hired when Lakeside High School opened. She served as a cashier for over 30 years, enjoying her interactions with students each day.
She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Teurman, her brother, William Cicero Morgan; and her sister, Agnes Morgan Akin. She is survived by her three sons - Barry Teurman Smith, Larry Clarence Smith and wife Deloris and Timothy Allen Smith and wife Monica; her daughter Margina Smith Barrett and husband Chris; her eight grandchildren - Cassie and Nathan Smith, Joshua and Jeremy Davidson, Meghan and Sarah Reichenbach, and Caroline and Amber Barrett; her four great grandchildren - Emily, Savannah, Rylan and Jackson Smith; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends at A.S. Turner and Son's Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 3rd, from 2 to 4 pm and from 6 to 8 pm.
Ernestine's funeral will be on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at 1:00 pm at Rehoboth Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children's Ministry at Rehoboth Baptist Church, 2997 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA 30084.
