Mrs. Ernestine P. Holland passed away Saturday, October 30, 2004 at DeKalb Medical Center. She grew up in Dahlonega, attended North Georgia College where she met her future husband, Henry F. Holland, Jr. After his army duties, they married and after his graduation from the University of Georgia, they moved to DeKalb County where they lived together for 32 years before his death in 1979. Mrs. Holland was a State of Georgia retiree. She worked for State Treasurer George Hamilton. Afterwards, she was Executive Secretary for House of Representatives Speaker George L. Smith II until his death. When the Speaker?s office was responsible for the printing of the ?White Book? containing Senate and House members and committees; Mrs. Holland was the one who put it together. According to long time friends and co-workers, Ernestine was kind and compassionate but a strict professional in her job and the greatest organizer and intermediary in her duties. She took great pride in the relationship she had with House members while in the Speaker?s office. She was admired by several governors and Jimmy Carter wanted her to go to Washington with him but she elected to stay home with her family. Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Ted Groszkiewicz of Berkeley, California; a son, Henry F. Holland III of DeKalb County; grandson Adam Groszkiewicz and granddaughter, Jillian Groszkiewicz. The family requests in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, 852 College Blvd., Suite 102, PMB 609, Oceanside, California 92057. Funeral services will be held at The Chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons Wednesday, November 3rd at 11 AM with interment at Mount Hope Cemetery in Dahlonega, Georgia. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 2nd from 6 to 9 PM at A. S. Turner and Sons.
