E. Rowanne Ligon of Decatur Georgia passed away Monday of September 15, 2014 at the age of 90 due to the complications of dementia. Rowanne was the daughter of W.O. and Esther Ligon of Vienna, Georgia. She was preceded by her parents and her brother, W.O. Ligon and his wife, Nina S. Ligon. She is survived by nephew Bill Ligon, his wife Cindy, and great nieces Jordan and Brittany. Rowanne dedicated her life to nursing, and worked as an army nurse stationed in Germany at the end of WWII. After the army, she transitioned into the reserves and attained the rank of Colonel by the time she retired. She also received her Masters in Nursing from Emory University in 1964. After 30 years of working for the DeKalb County Public Health Department, she retired in 1983. Following retirement, she divided her time between her family, her Sunday school class at First Baptist Church of Decatur, traveling the world, and volunteering at organizations such as the Fernbank Science Center and the Carter Center where she passionately donated 20 years of her time. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to the Carter Center. Arrangements to be provided by A.S. Turner and Sons of Decatur Georgia.
