Ethel Annette Graves Ruckart

September 8, 1938 — August 6, 2012

Ethel Annette Graves Ruckart, 73, died suddenly in Avondale Estates, Georgia, on Monday, August 6, 2012. Anne was born on September 8, 1938, in Boyce, Louisiana. Annette was the sixth child of eight children born to Elbert Philip Graves and Elizabeth Mitchell Graves. She is preceded in death by her parents Elbert Philip Graves and Elizabeth Mitchell Graves; her husband Captain Virgil David Ruckart; sister Joyce Graves Shealy; brother Philip Elbert Graves and brother Carl Mitchell Graves. She is survived by her daughter, Rachel Annette Ruckart (David Paige) of Avondale Estates; son Virgil David Ruckart Jr. of Atlanta; son John Paul Ruckart (Perri Ruckart) of Atlanta; four grandchildren -- Olivia and Abby Paige, and Cooper and Jude Ruckart; three sisters, Shirley Graves Scullane of Ayer, Massachusetts; Faye Graves Carnahan and Linda Graves Henagan of Pineville, LA; brother Richard Murell Graves of Lufkin, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews. Annette graduated from Tioga High School in 1956. She married the late Captain David Ruckart (Ruck) in 1960 and three children were born from this union. Anne was a gifted gardener of both the soil and of souls. Known for her gentle spirit, her grand sense of humor, and her loving nature, Anne lived her life with a focus on faith, family and friends. Her poetry reflected that spirit and she lived her faith through both happy times and times of sorrow. She grew up in a close-knit, loving family surrounded by seven siblings and countless relatives. Keeping up with a large extended family of siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins, Anne managed to give to each one a special piece of herself. Even though she moved several times during her lifetime, friends were never left behind. She carried their friendship with her and enjoyed their correspondence and visits wherever she went. Of all of these, her bond with her children and her grandchildren was the source of her greatest love and pride. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 11, at Decatur First United Methodist Church in the Chapel on Sycamore Street and all family and friends are invited. Burial will be held in private. Memorial contributions are welcome and should be mailed to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. Checks should be made out to NAMI Dekalb and mailed to PO Box 2180, Decatur GA 30031. A. S.
