Ethel Velma Daniel Mitchell, age 97, of Scottdale, passed away November 30, 2010. Mrs. Mitchell was the youngest of four children, born to Ollie and Lula Gilley Daniel, December 11, 1912 in Lamar, Randolph County, Alabama. Mrs. Mitchell grew up on a farm and learned well from her loving parents. She married Major Monroe Moore in 1931, and they had one son, Conelia Q. Moore. Major (Mr. Moore) passed away in 1933. Mrs. Mitchell met her husband, Alvin, and they married in 1934. She and Mr. Mitchell had four children. She and her family moved to Scottdale, Ga. in December 1949. Mrs. Mitchell went to work at Scottdale Mills as a cloth inspector, and retired after 20 years. She was an avid vegetable and flower gardener, a wonderful cook, and was always ready to lend a hand where needed. There wasn't anything she couldn't do if she set her mind to it. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Mrs. Mitchell was a devoted member of Prospect Methodist Church in Woodland, Alabama for 80 years. She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel (Danny) Lee Mitchell at age 2 ½, husband, Alvin A. Mitchell, grandson, Danny C. Moore, great-grandsons, Justin Gilman and Mason Benjamin Greene, daughter-in-law, Estelle Reed Moore, son-in-law, Richard A. Pike, sister, Leva Mae Pilgrim and brothers Z.O (Zora) Daniel and Will Daniel. She is survived by her son Conelia Q. Moore of Conyers; son and daughter-in-law, Oliver and Jean Mitchell of Covington; daughter, Wilma Jean Mitchell Pike of Molden-on-the Hudson, N.Y. and Ft. Myers, Fla.; and daughter and son-in-law, Jann Mitchell Greene and David Greene; ten grandchildren, Karla Pike Partridge and husband Wade, of Covington, La.; Kerry Pike and wife Joanne of Cape Coral, Fla.; Ric Pike Dragon and wife Jennifer of Chichester, N.Y.; Tony Mitchell and wife Bettina of Social Circle, Ga.; Sam Mitchell of Covington, Ga.; Debbie Moore Foster and husband Larry of Conyers, Ga.; Christopher Greene and wife Cindy of Loganville, Ga.; Stagg Greene and wife Amy of Snellville, Ga.; Zack Greene of Covington Ga.; Chavah Greene Bellows and husband Joshua of Heber City, UT., and granddaughter-in-law, Becky Lovin Moore of Stockbridge, Ga.; thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many loving nieces, nephews, friends, and a dear friend, Virginia Hembree. Pallbearers will be grandsons Christopher Greene, Zachary Greene, Tony Mitchell, and Sam Mitchell; great-grandsons Joseph Greene, Corey Greene, McKay Greene, and Tyler Moore. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 4, at 1:00 p.m. at A.S. Turner and Sons, North Decatur Road, Decatur, Ga., with Elder Stagg McKay Greene, Reverend Ridley Parmer, and Doctor Jim Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Green Meadow Cemetery in Conyers, Ga. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Friday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m.
