Eugene C. Dickey, Jr.

Mr. Eugene C. Dickey, Jr., 80, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012. He was born in Atlanta to Eugene C. Dickey, Sr. and Kathryn Boggs Dickey. He graduated from the Citadel in 1953, where he served as Commanding Officer of Company G. He then served in the U.S. Army as 1st Lt. in the Airborne Division. His career in insurance included Travelers Ins. Co. and Cotton States Ins. as VP of Marketing before joining Academy Int'l Travel Svcs. He had an adventurous spirit and traveled the globe. Gene loved the Lord and was dedicated to his church, his family, and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Diane DuPree. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy Armstrong Dickey, daughters, Kathy Espinosa (Chris), Laurie Ledbetter (Jim) and Lisa Dyches (Paul); sister, Marilyn Williams; brother, William Dickey; and six grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, June 30, at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Glenn Ethridge officiating.
