Eugene L. "Gene" Argo, age 75, died Wednesday afternoon at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville. A native of DeKalb County, Argo was the son of the late Barbara and Ernest Argo. He was a graduate of Decatur Boys High School, and served in the Korean War with the United States Coast Guard. Argo attended Emory University and graduated from Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy in 1958 with a B.S. degree in pharmacy. While attending college, Argo began working at Stacy's Pharmacy on Scott Boulevard in Decatur in 1955. In 1960, he became Vice President and co- owner of Stacy's and in 1967, he became President and owner. Argo opened a second pharmacy, Stacy's Pharmacy at Emory Village, in 1973. After selling both Stacy's locations in 1998, Argo opened Stacy's Compound Pharmacy where he worked until his retirement. Argo was a member of the Georgia Pharmaceutical Association. He was appointed by Governors George Busbee and Joe Frank Harris to terms on the Georgia Board of Pharmacy. Argo was elected to the Board of Directors of the National Association Boards of Pharmacy from 1979-1985, and served as NABP President in 1986. He won many awards during his career, including the National Board of Hygeia award. Argo became President and owner of Medical Therapies Inc. Home Health Care in 1984. He was a partner in Argo-Brigman Partners, which provided office and professional business space rentals. Argo also served as President of the Board of Directors and founding member of Community Bank of Georgia in 1989. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue; son, Pete, daughter Catherine; granddaughter, Cali; grandson, Cash; and son-in-law, Cal Callaway. Visitation will take place Friday, May 30, from 6pm-9pm at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur. Funeral services will take place Saturday, May 31, at 11 am at Holy Trinity Parish- Episcopal, 515 East Ponce De Leon Avenue, Decatur. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, 3000 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker. Instead of flowers, the Argo family asks that donations be made either to the Special Fund Drive at Holy Trinity Parish, 515 East Ponce De Leon Avenue, Decatur, GA., 30030; or the Scholarship Fund at Mercer University School of Pharmacy, Office of University Advancement, 3001 Mercer University Drive, Atlanta, GA., 30341-4115.
