Eula M. (Self) Ewing

January 16, 1925 — August 4, 2007

Mrs. Eula Mae (Self) Ewing died Saturday, August 4, 2007. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 7th at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the cemetery. Eula was born January 16, 1925 in Madison County in North Alabama, the oldest of 8 siblings and 1 half brother. As the oldest sibling, she was extremely resourceful and resilient. In 1952 she left Alabama and traveled to Atlanta on a Greyhound bus with all her worldly possessions in one suitcase. Eula became a member of Second Ponce De Leon Baptist Church in 1954. She loved her Sunday School class. She was employed at Shell Oil, where she worked for 23 years. Eula met Edward Ewing, who grew up in Atlanta; they were married June 24, 1955. Eula loved to travel. She and Ed took many trips with friends to Europe and Asia. Her favorite trip was their trip to China. She experienced many difficulties, including coping with retinitis pigmentosa, but she looked forward to a better life with the joy and hope as Paul expressed in Romans 8:18: "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us." Eula is survived by her husband, Edward Ewing; 2 sisters; 2 brothers; 1 half brother; 5 sisters-in law; 3 brothers-in law; 23 nieces and nephews, who lovingly refer to her as Aunt Mae; and many grand-nieces and nephews.
