Evelyn D. Alex, 48, of Lilburn died on Saturday, May 29, 2010. She fought a three year courageous battle with inflammatory breast cancer; her attitude and faith were an inspiration. Evelyn was born to Mike and Beverly Alex on January 10, 1962 in Atlanta, GA. She attended Georgia Institute of Technology and DeVry University. Ms. Alex was a life long member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She taught Sunday school, was a past President of GOYA, and was also an officer of the Maids of Athena. She enjoyed volunteering at animal shelters and had a deep love for her dogs, Daisy and Bailey. Ms. Alex is survived by her parents, Mike and Beverly Alex; siblings, Leslye Alex Phillips (Alan) of Jacksonville, FL, John Alex (Victoria) of Alexandria, VA and Michelle Alex Neil (Randy) of Loganville; nieces, Lea Phillips Manley (Mike) of Phoenix, AZ, Erin Phillips of Jacksonville, FL, Alexis Neil of Loganville; nephew, Jared Neil of Loganville; and God children. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 2:00 P. M. at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Atlanta. Interment to follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Evelyn D. Alex Scholarship, AHEPA Educational Foundation, 7971 Magnolia Square, Sandy Springs, GA 30350-4025. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 P.M. at A. S. Turner & Sons.
