Evelyn Elise Smith James, 89, of Decatur died May 15,2007 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. She was born January 15, 1918, in Wrens, Georgia to the late John Cleveland Smith and Mattie Mae Avera Smith, both of Wrens. One of seven children, she was preceded in death by all seven of her siblings. Her family later moved to Chester, S.C. where she lived for twenty years before moving to Decatur with her husband, the late Joseph Costner James, originally of Chester. They were married for 50 years until his death in 1993. She is survived by four children, daughter Sandra James Adams and husband David of Marietta; son Joseph C. James, Jr. of Decatur; daughter Linda James Hallman and husband David of Eatonton; and daughter Sybil James Ellis of Atlanta; seven grandchildren, Brad Adams and wife Lucy of Thomson; Tracy Adams of Marietta; Brian Adams and wife Jamie of Augusta; Shannon Jones of Aspen, Colorado; Rayna Jones of Eatonton; Jennifer Hansen of Chicago, Illinois; and Will Ellis of Atlanta; five great-grandchildren, Ford Adams, Duncan Adams, Smith Adams, and Lucy Beth Adams, all of Thomson; and Madison Catarello of Chicago, Illinois; and a number of other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Bert Jones of Tifton; and her siblings, Virginia Pickett, Calvin Smith, Leonard Smith, Bill Smith, Jack Smith and Fred Smith. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, with interment to follow on June 1, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery in Chester, S. C. A. S. Turner & Sons
