Mrs. Evelyn Martin Fortner, 92, a life long resident of Scottdale, GA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 26, 2010. She was born in Scottdale on September 15, 1917 to Herman Vonstrow Martin and Lena Carrie Elam Martin. She worked along side her family and friends at Scottdale Mills until it’s closing in the 1980’s and then went to work for Georgia Duck and Cordage Mill until her retirement in 1989. After retiring she did the one thing that she loved the most, taking care of her great grandchildren. Mrs. Fortner was a faithful member of Ingleside Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Horace Timothy Fortner, Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Harriett Fortner; son, Rev. Tim Fortner, Jr. and his wife Anna; brother, Bobby Martin and his wife Eloise; sister, Rev. Betty Sherrod and her husband Burton; her grandchildren, Kim and Ted Jannakos, Debbie Beagle, Dan and Rochelle Fortner, Matt and Genevieve Fortner; great grandchildren, Alex, Abbi, Alyssa, Andrew, Johnny, Noah, Sarah Ryan, Jacq, Finian, Owen, MacDaniel, and Henry. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 30th at 12:00 noon at Rehoboth Presbyterian Church with Rev. Betty Martin Sherrod and Rev. Joel Tolbert officiating. Interment, Melwood Cemetery. Flowers are welcomed. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6 to 8 pm and Sunday from 3 to 5 pm at A. S. Turner & Sons.
