Evelyn Pearle Thacker Healan died at the age of 97. She is survived by her two sons, Randy and his wife Jean, and Dan and his wife Nancy; two daughters, Jackie Ross and Cathy Mobley and her husband David; seven grandchildren, Polly Wallace and her husband Todd, Ryan Healan and his wife Katie, Erin Diiorio and her husband Peter, Mandy Li, Kelley Rubio and her husband Craig, Mollie Gichuru and her husband John, and Scottie Mobley; nine great-grandchildren, Mina Wallace and Corben Wallace, Vivienne Li and Harrison Li, Link Healan and Wynn Healan, Miles Gichuru, Alyssa Rubio and Hailey Rubio. Evelyn was a Georgia native, born in Waleska, Georgia and a proud graduate of Reinhardt College and the University of Georgia where she majored in French, English, and Speech. She was a forward on the basketball team at Reinhardt and on the debate team at UGA. After graduating, she taught school and loved and breathed good education. She touched so many lives. She worked many jobs with the last being Assistant Director for the Georgia Foundation for Independent Colleges. She loved education so much that she went back to school to work toward her masters. She attended Georgia State University in her eighties. She loved being a student and learning what she could. Her hobbies were family, reading, card games, religious study, UGA football (true dawg fan), cooking, writing, music, crossword puzzles, birds, Paris and Florida trips, playing the organ. She was also very internet savvy. She was very victorious in being a winner many times over for her cartoon titles she won in the weekly Atlanta Journal contests. She is credited for the mascots she created for the Association County Commissioners of Georgia representing the opening of the Georgia Legislature and also Clean Water Act in Georgia. She loved her big family and so looked forward to a huge gatherings around the dining table. She loved her husband, Hill Healan, and enjoyed 67 years of marriage. Mother loved her church and her wonderful Sunday school friends at Glenn Memorial UMC. She served as President of the Judson C. Ward Sunday School Class. She also started the Pastoral Care Outreach at Glenn Memorial UMC. Her enthusiasm and joy of life knew no boundaries. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and beautiful friend to all who knew her. She will continue to live through us all. Services will be 2:00 PM Monday in the chapel at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 PM in Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 – 7 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Reinhardt University or Glenn Memorial UMC.
