Evelyn Rebecca Gillis

Evelyn Hughes Gillis, 91, of Decatur, passed away on Wednesday March 4, 2015. A native of Newnan, GA, she was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Mae Hughes and her husband, Clarence L. Gillis and a brother, Jack Hughes. Mrs. Gillis was a long-time member of Scott Boulevard Baptist Church, where she served as secretary for 20 years. She is survived by her sons and spouses, Jerry and Debby Gillis and Ben and Trisha Gillis; brothers, Henry and Betty Hughes and Jimmy and Pat Hughes; sister in law, Barbara Hughes; grandchildren and spouses, Rev. Jerry and Edie Gillis, Jr., Stephen and Renee Gillis, Suzanne and Carter Akins, and Benjamin Gillis, Jr. Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Trace Gillis, Tanner Gillis, Lily Kate Akins, Branson Akins, Rachel Gillis, Ruthie Akins, Henry Akins and Judah Gillis. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be sent to Ross Memorial Health Care, 1780 Old 42 Highway, NW, Kennesaw, GA 30152. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday March 7 in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons with Rev. Jerry L. Gillis, Jr. officiating with interment to follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will begin receiving friends at 9:00 am Saturday at A. S. Turner and Sons.
