Mrs. Evelyn Wall Robbins of Sandy Springs died Monday, February 5, 2007. Born in Lake City, SC, she was the daughter of Ella Lou Able Wall and Victor Sterling Wall. On March 4, 1950, she married Homer Erwin Robbins, Jr. The wedding took place in Christ?s Chapel at the Riverside Church in New York City. The Rev. Dr. Norris L. Tibbetts officiated and Virgil Fox presided at the organ. She graduated from Agnes Scott College, and did her post-graduate work at the Juilliard School of Music in N.Y.C. There she studied voice with Charlie Hackett, methods with Fraser Gaines, and choral conducting with Peter Wilhousky. She also studied composition with Norman Coke-Jepthcott and Harold Friedell. She was, for 15 years, at student of Clarence Dickinson. Mrs. Robbins served prominent congregations as organist-director in Decatur; Atlanta; New Rochelle, NY; and Allentown, PA. In each church she was frequently heard in solo organ recitals. Mrs. Robbins has been active for many years in the Choristers? Guild and the American Guild of Organists. For several years she taught organ and directed the chapel choir at Cedar Crest College in Allentown, PA. She was twice dean of the Lehigh Valley Capter of the A. G. O. T. Her nearest relatives are two sons, Homer E. Robbins, III of Austell, GA, George F. Robbins of Duluth; and two nieces, Victoria Johnson of Wisconsin and Sherrill Rutherford of Stone Mountain. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 8, at 11:00 am at Belvedere United Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Susan R. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 4840 Roswell Road Building D, Suite 250, Atlanta, GA 30342. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 pm Wednesday evening at A. S. Turner & Sons.
