Evergene Wright Ayers

July 23, 1922 — January 6, 2017

Mrs. Evergene Ayers completed her 94 year life journey on Friday; January 6, 2017, at her residence at The Presbyterian Village in Austell, GA.

Born in Conyers, GA, Evergene Ayers was a resident of the Decatur area for most of her life; with the last 10 years of her residency at The Presbyterian Village of Austell, GA. She was a graduate of Atlanta Girls High School and the Greenleaf Business College of Atlanta. She was a faithful, dedicated, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid dancer in everything from jitterbug in her youth to square dancing in later years. She was a lover of people and enjoyed membership since a young adult in the "J.U.G. Club" ("Just Us Girls") which resulted in life long friendships – some approaching 80 years in duration. She was an active church woman and dedicated Christian with memberships at Oakhurst Presbyterian and Rehoboth Presbyterian Churches in Decatur, GA, and recently as a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. She will be loved and missed by family and countless friends who were blessed by her friendship.

She is survived by her sister, Bettye Sue Wright of Atlanta; daughter, Mrs. Jackie Muntner and her husband, Don, of Loganville, GA; son Rev. Ed Ayers and his wife, Frances, of Savannah, GA; granddaughter, Allison Ziegler-Jones and her husband, Kevin, of Hoschton, GA; great granddaughter, Katelyn Elaine Ziegler; great grandson, Ashton Edward Ziegler; step-granddaughter, Mrs. Jessica Muntner Byrd and her husband, Tyler; step great grandson, Levi Hampton Byrd.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ashton Edwin "Ed" Ayers, Sr.; sons Robert "Bobby" Lewis Ayers; William "Billy" Charles Ayers; and daughter Evergene Susanne Ayers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to "Caring Hands Ministry" of The Presbyterian Village or a charity of your choice.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday; Jan. 10 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at Turners Funeral Home on Wednesday; Jan. 11 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Cemetery. The Rev. Don Wade will be conducting the services.
