The Very Reverend Father Homer P. Goumenis, Dean Emeritus of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, died Sunday, January 2, 2005. A native of Lowell, MA, he attended Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Theological School and Boston University, Boston, MA; General Theological Seminary, New York City; Lutheran Theological Seminary, Columbia SC; and Institute of Advanced Pastoral Studies, Bloomfield Hills, MI. He has served as pastor of Greek churches at St. Demetrios, Astoria, Long Island, NY; Holy Trinity, Columbia, SC; and the Greek Cathedral, Atlanta, which he has served since 1963. He has been a lecturer on Eastern (Greek) Orthodox Church history, doctrine, worship and ethos, as well as on Greek history, culture & ethos. He has been a guest instructor on Greek Orthodox Christianity at Candler School of Theology, Emory University. His memberships have included Archdiocesan Council of Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South America, the Diocesan Council of the Greek Orthodox Diocese of Atlanta and the Southeast, Board of Directors of the Christian Council of Metropolitan Atlanta, as well as Board of Directors of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. He is survived by his wife, Christine Goumenis; daughter, Catherine Day and her husband Frank, Kennesaw, GA; son, David Goumenis, Atlanta, GA; brother, Father Charles Goumenis and his wife Athena, Norfolk, VA; sister, Mrs. Pauline Marangos, Suffolk, VA; and grandchildren, Coleman Day and Christopher Day. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 P. M. Wednesday at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation. Father George Alexson and Father Paul Keriotis will officiate. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. The visitation will be from 6 to 8 P. M. Tuesday evening at the church. A. S. Turner & Sons.
