Tina Yrigoytia died peacefully on December 6, 2019 at Emory Decatur Hospital after an extended period of declining health. Beloved daughter of Sara and Alex Munoz, Tina was born in New York City on May 26, 1927 and grew up in Brooklyn Heights, NY surrounded by a large and lively group of family and friends. She graduated from Girls’ Commercial High School in New York, NY and from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA.
Tina was an avid reader and well informed about politics, current events and her family’s genealogy. She cherished spending time with her family as well as traveling and enjoyed the opportunity to visit extended family in Argentina. She was talented in the arts, particularly painting and writing and shared her love for the theatre with her children and grandchildren. Always loyal, Tina loved her family and friends unconditionally throughout life and was known for her beauty and expertise in the kitchen. The door to her home was always open, welcoming others to enjoy delicious food and wonderful conversation.
Her lengthy and varied career was a testament to her flexibility, diverse skill set, desire to work hard and joy in meeting challenges. She retired from United Way in 1999.
Tina is survived by her daughters Susan Lomba Rubino (Ron) of Atlanta and Lesley Lomba Franklin (Chris) of Marietta; grandchildren, Stephanie Hogan of Pine Lake, Elisabeth Nark (Jim) of Decatur and John Franklin of Marietta; great grandchildren, Steven Christian, Christie and Jackson of Pine Lake; nieces, Marina Mercado (Mel) of Chicago, Illinois, Faustina Sandoval (Bob) of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and Julie Larrabee (Mike) of Tucson, Arizona; great nephew, Alex Sandoval of Chicago, Illinois and friend Marcia Flemming, who helped care for her during her final years. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sara Mercado; her first husband, Johnny Lomba and nephew, William Mercado. She will be dearly missed.
A celebration Mass in Tina’s memory will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Holy Family Catholic Church, where she was a long-time member, located at 3401 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30068. A reception will immediately follow the service.
